Born in London, England, Matthew Fletcher’s life-long love affair with Costa Mesa began at age eight when his father accepted a position in California and moved his young family to a place Matt expected would be a mix of the wild west and Grease. After graduating from Newport Harbor High School, then UC Berkeley, Matt traveled extensively and honed his people skills in coffee shops before returning to London to work as a talent manager in the entertainment industry. He eventually settled back in California where he worked as a photo shoot producer and played in a band before recognizing his passion for real estate after buying and selling homes of his own. Now with more than ten years of real estate experience, Matt represents buyers and sellers all over Orange County but specializes in Westside Costa Mesa and Orange County’s historic homes in general. After two years heading the awareness campaign for the Mills Act on Costa Mesa’s Historical Preservation Committee, Matt continues this endeavor daily. “Preserving historically significant homes is something I’m passionate about. Exposing clients to a way to save on their property taxes is the icing on the cake!”
As a history buff and self-confessed research nerd, Matt loves highlighting a home’s unique architectural features as much as its place in local history. Matt enjoys talking about how Costa Mesa has developed its own distinct personality in the shadow of its much wealthier neighbor, Newport Beach. As a huge proponent and supporter of Costa Mesa’s vibrant cultural scene, especially in the burgeoning Westside, Matt loves highlighting the area’s lesser- known parks, restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment. Surrounded by a unique mix of residential and industrial zones, Westside Costa Mesa homes sit on the bluffs and come complete with ocean breezes and large lots. He finds it particularly gratifying when his clients end up sharing his love for all things Costa Mesa. Matt prides himself on his high level of customer service and his ability to build lasting relationships – something he learned early in the entertainment industry. While always diplomatic, he is a fierce negotiator and fights for his clients’ best interests. He takes great pride in matching his clients’ needs with off-market listings – something that comes from forging a strong network in the community and within the industry.
More about Matthew Fletcher, in his own words: Q: What are you most passionate about in real estate? A: I love exposing buyers to new neighborhoods they haven’t discovered – or perhaps even considered. I often find that my clients fall in love with a neighborhood because of its nearby restaurants, cafes, bars, parks, and neighborhood activities. The right home often follows naturally once these connections are made. Q: What’s your favorite residential architectural style and why? A: I’d say my favorite style is a simple ranch style home that has a few features from the 50s and 60s – like our own home. I’m also a sucker for a mid-century modern post and beam home. I really enjoy the simplicity of these home styles – I think they lend themselves well to the southern California lifestyle. Q: Where do you live now and why do you love it? A: I live in Westside Costa Mesa in a 1950s ranch style home. It’s had a couple of additions and plenty of updating. We’ve really enjoyed highlighting a few mid-century modern elements, like the white brick double-sided fireplace, and adding our eclectic interior touches to the house. We love walking our dogs in Fairview Park or riding bikes down the Santa Ana River trail to the beach. Q: What excited you most about joining Nook? A: As an architecture and design buff, I was particularly drawn to the “Search with Style” and “Sell with Style” functionality of the Nook search engine. I find that most of my clients are drawn to a particular architectural style – and this functionality makes it so much easier for them to find what they’re looking for – and for me to show them homes I know they’ll love. It’s a win-win!
